EDGE Fund - DA of LaGrange, Sewon America, Inc.
In January 2009, OneGeorgia awarded $5,000,000 in EDGE Funds to the Development Authority of LaGrange to assist in the location of an auto supply manufacturing facility, Sewon America, Inc. Sewon planned to create 550 jobs and provide a private investment of approximately $150 million within 24 months.
Sewon America, Inc., located in the Callaway South Industrial Park near LaGrange Callaway Airport, is a Korean auto supplier, and through its first venture in the United States is the largest supplier to KIA Automotive. It manufactures frame stampings and major chassis components. The company constructed a 420,000-square-foot building on 62.47 acres in the Callaway South Industrial Park which is located near the KIA facility. The EDGE funds paid for building construction, site preparation and an on-site training center. The local community offered land for the project, infrastructure improvements to the site, property tax abatements and temporary office space and relocation assistance valued at over $5,800,000.
As of February 2011, Sewon has not only completed construction of the facility, but they are now in the process of adding an additional 275,000 SF. The current employment stands at 700 new jobs, far exceeding their original estimates.
