EDGE funds to purchase machinery and equipment to support the expansion of the Timken Companyâ€™s existing Sylvania plant. Timken is a leading global manufacturer of highly engineered bearings, alloy and specialty steel and related components. Started in 1898, Timken now has operations in 27 countries, over 27,000 employees and recorded $2.5 billion in sales in 2005. The Sylvania facility, approximately 267,000 square-feet and situated on 87 acres, manufactures bearings for the automotive industry. Timken is closing its plant in Clinton, South Carolina, which will add 88 new jobs at the Sylvania facility in addition to the existing 530 employees. This project is in competition with locations in other countries.
EDGE funds to purchase machinery and equipment from an existing bankrupt company in Screven County. The equipment will be owned by the Development Authority, leased to Westex Acquisition, LLC and then subleased to King America Finishing, Inc. The company will produce flame resistant fabrics internationally, and its affiliate, Westex, Inc., is considered the world leader in flame-resistant treated cotton fabrics. King America commits to creating 150 jobs within two years. Sylvania is in competition with North Carolina.
