Grant & Loan Awards: Johnson County
P.M. Equipment, LLC is a small company located in Wrightsville, GA. The company places roll-off containers with industrial and municipal customers from whom they purchase scrap metal for resale. The loan proceeds will be used to purchase a roll-off truck, roll-off containers and equipment.
BRIDGE funds to assist with the cost of two feasibility studies needed to help determine the economic benefits and costs of providing high speed broadband in the unincorporated and rural section of Johnson County. The applicant proposes to contract with TechSmart at Georgia Tech to complete a technology assessment engaging local businesses, civic institutions and government agencies. Johnson County is lacking in distance learning opportunities, either through area colleges or other entities. The establishment of a satellite facility would enable local students to participate in higher education while enjoying the benefits of living in a rural area. Camvera will conduct an engineering study including propagation analysis, signal spectrum analysis, site survey and map of potential sites for antennas and towers that could be used to deliver high-speed Internet.
Equity funds to assist in the purchase of a 96-acre tract of land and provide for the necessary infrastructure to develop the first publicly-owned industrial park in Johnson County. The property, identified through a GA Tech Site Selection Study and strategically located on Ga Hwy 57, will enable the county to competitively market its location with access via I-16 to the port in Savannah as well as Macon and Atlanta.
Equity funds to provide technical assistance for a seventeen-month period to transition farmers in Johnson, Laurens, Washington, Wilkinson and Treutlen counties into nursery crop production.
Equity funds to make sewer system improvements for a new catfish processing plant and the YDC's conversion into a state prison.
